To the editor:
Perhaps there is something missing in your life. What else could explain why you would permit yourself and your newspaper to be used issue after issue by Nels Kelstrom and his posse for mean, personal attacks on individuals in our community? Kelstrom and his group are waging a concerted effort to prove that they are incapable of polite disagreement, and unable to limit their deviant opinions to just a debate on the issues. Time and again, they launch into mean, angry and fallacious personal attacks.
You are aiding them in that effort. To allow yourself and your newspaper to be used as a vehicle for personal and nasty attacks demeans yourself and the South Whidbey Record. It is your job to maintain civility in the letters printed on the Opinion page. You are failing to do this. This suggests that you share the opinions of Kelstrom and his crew.
As a reader and a subscriber, I find your incapacity to maintain proper decorum on your Opinion page nearly as regrettable as Kelstrom and his posse’s behavior. Whidbey Island deserves better.
