To the editor:

I have had the pleasure of knowing Jim Sundberg for some time, primarily as a fellow commuter traveling in the same time slot. A frequent topic of conversation during that time was Langley city government. What I observed in those conversations is that Jim always listened carefully to my political arguments, even when he disagreed with them. When he agreed with me, I admired his perspicacity, and when he disagreed, I admired his thoughtfulness and civility.

Jim has sound knowledge of how city government works. He has training in urban planning and working experience in that capacity. He’s been chair of the planning advisory board for some time and is well aware of the need to bring city zoning codes into agreement with the city’s comprehensive plan.  Having been intimately involved with both, he is ideally placed to help the council make the alignment happen.

A compelling argument can be made that our world, including Langley, is going to have to adapt to rapid change in the near future. In addition to having their brains attached the council members will need to have confidence and optimism in the community’s ability to adapt. As a man who looks forward and as a community member who fully participates, Jim will be in an ideal position to help Langley meet the forthcoming challenges.

I urge you to vote him onto the Langley City Council in the November election.
