There’s no proof CO2 causes global warming

Editor,

In Mark Enell’s letter to the editor of 17 May, “97 percent of scientists say climate change is real, man made,” he indicates that he believes that global warming is due to mankind because of the rise of CO2 in the atmosphere. However, there is no proof that this causes global warming. It is the same thing as saying that because most of mankind awakens in the morning, the sun rises.

In fact, according to new data compiled by NASA’s Langley Research Center, carbon dioxide actually cools the atmosphere, which has not warmed noticeably since the major El-Nino of 1997-98. Temperatures haven’t risen at all, and over the past 18 months, thermometers and satellites both report a sharp global cooling.

Also, NASA studies have shown that Antarctic temperatures have cooled over the past six years. And a United Nations report states that global cooling is due to a fall in current solar activity, which would lead one to believe that a rise in solar activity would lead to global warming.

It should be obvious to all that we are simply going through a natural cycle of climate warming and cooling, so no one should be alarmed about the global warming hysteria out there.

I do have a couple of comments and a question regarding Mr. Enell’s letter.

1. When Al Gore left office his net worth was $1.7 million. By joining the “Global Warming Bandwagon” he has managed to increase his net worth to $300 million.

2. Since the 1890s the average temperature has risen 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit.

3. Where does he get his data that 97 percent of the world’s scientists agree that global warming is caused by mankind?
