Van Pelt will be a working clerk | LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the editor:

Debra Van Pelt has my vote for Island County clerk. She has the experience to keep this office going under tough budget cutbacks.

This is not a time for Patricia Terry to have job training and bring in consultants to initiate changes that we cannot afford. Ms. Terry’s experience as a nurse and education in administration might be useful in public health, but has no relevance to the duties of the clerk.

At an election forum held in Coupeville sponsored by the League of Women Voters, Debra Van Pelt had this to say: “In these uncertain economic times, I believe it is imperative to have a county clerk who has the ability, experience and desire to be a working clerk.”

She is right. Many of us have worked recently in areas cut back due to the economy, and realize the benefits of an experienced person who can wear many hats and keep the office going.

Let’s not make life more difficult a the county level; vote Debra Van Pelt for Island County clerk.
