Deception Pass State Park will play host to an American Roots music series this summer.

The free concert series features local artists performing a variety of music styles in celebration of traditional folk music from the Pacific Northwest.

A Moment in Time, an African-American a cappella gospel quartet from the Seattle area, will kick off American Roots with a show on July 16.

On July 23, it’s Northfork. Sharon “Silver” Glenn and George Thomsen will share ranching rhymes and cowboy songs from Central Washington’s Ahtanum North Fork near Yakima.

Ernest Queen and Queen’s Bluegrass will play traditional bluegrass and Southern Gospel music from the Skagit Valley “Tar Heel” community on July 30

The series wraps up on Aug. 6 with Juan Manuel Barco & His Conjunto, with original songs and traditional music from the TexMex border and the Yakima Valley.

All performances start at 7 p.m. in the West Beach amphitheater on the Whidbey Island side of the park, unless it rains. In case of rain, performances will move to the East Cranberry Lake picnic shelter, also on the Whidbey Island side of the park.

The Discover Pass is not required for vehicle access to these performances. Deception Pass State Park is located at 41020 Highway 20, Oak Harbor.

The concert series is presented by the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission Folk Arts in the Parks Program, and is part of a broader series of events celebrating Washington’s diverse cultures.
