Whidbey’s early music ensemble, Island Consort, will launch its second season with a concert featuring Henry Purcell’s “Welcome to all the Pleasures.”

The concert, one of many late 17th century odes to the matron saint of music and the arts, Saint Cecilia, will be performed on Saint Cecilia’s Day at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at Langley United Methodist Church.

The program includes works by Handel, Sanz, Bertoli and Benjamin Britten’s “Rejoice in the Lamb.”

A donation of $20 for adults or $10 for youth and military is suggested.

Island Consort is an ensemble composed of 27 instrumentalists and vocalists, all of whom are Whidbey Island residents. The group usually performs works of the Renaissance, Baroque and early Classical eras. The musicians occasionally perform chamber music of other eras and participate in additional local, regional and national projects as a group.
