Music festival moves to Freeland on Saturday

The Whidbey Island Music Festival continues Saturday with performances by the Novello Quartet and Debra Nagy, a classical oboe player, at St. Augustine in-the-Woods in Freeland.

The Whidbey Island Music Festival continues Saturday with performances by the Novello Quartet and Debra Nagy, a classical oboe player, at St. Augustine in-the-Woods in Freeland.

The quartet features Tekla Cunningham and Cynthia Freivogel on violin, Anthony Martin on viola and Elisabeth Reed on violoncello.

The performance on Aug. 9 is “Viennese Masters of the String Quartet,” featuring the works of Mozart, Schubert and Beethoven. The concert is at 7:30 p.m.

The concert includes Mozart’s Quartet in in G, K. 387; Schubert’s Quartet in Eb, Op. 125 No. 1; and Beethoven’s Quartet in G major, Op. 18 No. 2.

The festival, now in its third year, presents music from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries and some of the greatest chamber music ever written.

The festival runs through Sunday, Aug. 17.
