Saratoga Orchestra presents ‘Friday Night at the Movies’

Saratoga Orchestra of Whidbey Island presents “Friday Night at the Movies,” a salute to the cinematic soundtrack on at 7 p.m. Friday, March 15 at South Whidbey High School in Langley.

Celebrating its sixth season under the artistic direction of Legh W. Burns, the orchestra will welcome guest conductor Dr. Paul-Elliott Cobbs and will feature the award-winning South Whidbey High School Jazz  Ensemble under the direction of Chris Harshman.

From Bernstein to Beethoven and 007 to R2D2, the evening will include music from My Fair Lady, Les Misérables, The King’s Speech, West Side Story, Amadeus and The Sound of Music, among others. Co-stars for the evening will be SWHS Jazz Ensemble showcased in a musical set from Spy Thrillers!

Dr. Paul-Elliott Cobbs currently serves as music director of the Everett Philharmonic Orchestra, guest conductor with the Sussex Symphony Orchestra in Brighton, England, and music director for the Tacoma Youth Symphony Association, one of the largest in the United States.

Cobbs frequently appears with orchestras and ensembles in Europe, Asia and the United States including Vienna’s Festival Chamber Orchestra, members of the Dresden and Leipzig Opera, the Kamimura Wind Ensemble in Kagoshima, Japan and the Seattle Symphony.

General Admission tickets are $20 adult and $18 senior/military.

Students 18 and under are admitted free (under 14 must be accompanied by a paying adult).
