South Whidbey aerialist presents show at WICA

Aerialists Ariel Schmidtke and Isabelle DeLise take to the sky in “Death is the Beginning” — a full length, multidisciplinary, theatrical circus show at Whidbey Island Center for the Arts at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 13.

Schmidtke, a South Whidbey High School graduate, returns to the island in a two-person circus rife with dancing, theater, acrobatics, aerials and puppetry.

The show is part of the Whidbey Island Fringe Festival, a series of events and classes through July 31.

Tickets for “Death is the Beginning” are $8 for adults and $5 for youths.

Other Fringe Festival shows include “Anne of Green Gables,” “Nymbol’s Secret Island,” “The Crucible” and “West is West, or the Great American Camel Race.”

Students in the Intermediate Acting Summer Training Program will present “Anne of Green Gables” at 3 p.m. July 21 and July 22.

All seats are $5.

“Nymbol’s Secret Island” takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. July 22 and 23.

The show includes faeries’ pranks, marauding pirates, glib puppets, talented humans, aerial artistry, a questionable yarn or two, beautiful music and dazzling dance.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for youths.

Students in the Advanced Acting Summer Training Program will present “The Crucible” at 7:30 p.m. July 29 and 30, and at 3 p.m. July 31.

Written in the early 1950s, Arthur Miller’s “The Crucible” takes place in Salem, Mass. in 1692 and recounts the events surrounding the Salem Witch Trials. All seats are $5.

WICA presents “West is West, or the Great American Camel Race” at 7 p.m. Aug. 4-6 and 2 p.m. Aug. 7.

“West is West” brings together seven misfits in the high Sierra town of Virginia City, Nev. in a show directed by Dwight Zehm.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for youths.
