Back by popular demand, Chris Spencer will host Short Story Smash No. 2 at Whidbey Island Center for the Arts’ Zech Hall.

Local writers have their short stories read for glory, fame and prizes. Writers can submit their work and folks can attend and listen to the stories. All short stories must be 100 words exactly. Submissions must be emailed no later than Sept. 7 to cspencer@whidbey.com and will be printed and rehearsed prior to the reading. After all the readings are completed, the audience will vote.

The smash is 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, and Spencer encourages local writers to follow him into the literary limelight.

“The humorous short story is my genre, but no one takes my work seriously,” Spencer quipped. “I tried working for world peace, but preferred napping. I have thought about researching a cure for cancer, but have chosen instead to cut coupons.”

Spencer offered an inside view of his writing technique: “A pseudo-lucubratist, I pound a typewriter without risk of publishing, fabricating giggles at 2 a.m., tears by noon.”
