South Whidbey’s girls basketball team paired up with the Rotary Club of Whidbey Westside over the holidays to sell Christmas trees at Sebo’s Do-it Center in Bayview.

The Rotary Club raised over $12,000 and donated $2,500 to the girls basketball program in exchange for their volunteer work. Falcon head coach Andy Davis said in an email the girls worked from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. over four of the busiest days during the holidays. Groups of athletes, coaches and parents took shifts selling trees.

The coaches also traveled with volunteer Richard Parrick of Freeland to harvest over 100 trees at a tree farm just outside of Arlington. The money earned by the program will be used to address equipment needs, travel expenses and tournament fees.
