A beloved tradition for Whidbey plant-lovers is back in full swing.

The Coupeville Garden Club will host its 53rd annual plant sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 23. The festivities are back in person this year, with the sale taking place at its regular venue, the Coupeville Recreation Hall.

The club has an exciting selection of around 3,500 plants for Whidbey gardeners to choose from, such as annuals, perennials and tomatoes, as well as garden art. Club member Linda Youngs said there are over 450 geranium plants in “every color imaginable,” as well as 586 tomato plants.

The club is also offering house plants, which it has not done in the past.

The sale typically brings in around $11,000 every year.

“The beauty of this is that we’re all volunteers, and all of the money that we make goes right back into the community,” Youngs said.

The Coupeville Garden Club does plantings for the recreation hall, the welcome sign, the Front Street and Main Street flower barrels, public parks and other locations around town. Youngs said the sale is especially important this year as the costs of soil and other materials the club uses are high right now.
