Today is Children’s Day at South Whidbey Community Park from

10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The annual celebration of the youngest generation is one of the biggest, friendliest family-fun events that happens on the island and is created especially for island families.

Last year, more than 1,000 people attended the event that includes

30 booths of fun and activities, games, bouncy houses, slides, pony rides, entertainment and a yummy lunch, all free of charge.

Kids, grab your parents and tell them to leave their wallets behind. Everyone is invited.

“Children’s Day is an event that brings together children and their families with Island County organizations in a fun and enjoyable way at no cost to families,” said event organizer Bess Windecker-Nelson.

“We’ll have nearly 30 interactive booths provided by various service agencies, organizations and businesses that support children and families,” she added.

Children’s Day is sponsored by Partners for Young Children and Island County Public Health, the South Whidbey Parks & Rec District, United Way of Island County, Sno-Isle Libraries, South Whidbey Kiwanis, South Whidbey Children’s Center, Foundation for Early Learning, the Goose Community Grocer, Thrive-By-Five, Wal-Mart, generous private donors and a coalition of more than

25 community agencies that work with families.

Come on out and join the fun and soak in the smiles on a sea of young faces.

The sponsors request that families leave their dogs at home in consideration of children who are afraid of even the gentlest pups.
