Another in a series of public meetings to continue work on creating a customized set of development regulations for Freeland will be next week.
The Freeland Develop-ment Regulation Steering Committee meeting will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, in Grigware Hall at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Highway 525 in Freeland.
Work will continue on developing rules for landscaping and screening, and vegetation maintenance, said Mitchell Streicher, a steering committee member.
“Protecting, enhancing and maintaining healthy trees, groves of trees and vegetation are key community values,” a draft of the proposal says.
Development in Freeland is currently guided by the same rules used throughout Island County. The county and Freeland residents are attempting to create rules specifically pertaining to future development in the Freeland area, South Whidbey’s largest commercial center.
