A 28-year-old South Whidbey resident could find himself in prison for allegedly beating his girlfriend.

According to an Island County Sheriff’s affidavit, William Jesse Ogden beat the woman to the ground and continued to hit her, causing “extreme” injuries. The woman sustained bruising all over her head, including two badly blackened eyes.

Ogden was charged in Island County Superior Court Aug. 25 with second-degree assault, a domestic violence charge.

If convicted, he could face more than a year in prison.

According to the sheriff’s report, the woman said she and Ogden were drinking with some friends at a Langley home Aug. 20. She stated in the report that she yelled at Ogden because he wanted to have sex with a young girl at the party. Ogden hit her, knocking her down, and continued to assault her on the ground, the report states. The victim said Ogden prevented her from calling 911.

Ogden, however, told a sheriff’s deputy that his girlfriend tried to punch him in the face, causing him to lose his temper and assault her.
