The Island County Sheriff’s Office announced today it will partially lift the burning ban that’s been in place for more than a month.

A full burn ban went into effect July 30. The ban covered all outdoor burning in Island County, including camp fires.

Starting 8 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, recreational and cooking fires will be allowed in approved fire pits. Approved pits are those lined with concrete or metal, such as ones typically found in established campgrounds. Outdoor cooking will also be allowed on propane- and briquette-fueled barbecues and self-contained camp stoves.

Outdoor burning of natural debris will still be banned however, even for those with permits.
