“There is nothing like a good graduation ceremony to inspire teachers to get creative.Teachers and administrators at Bayview High School said goodbye to the school’s fourth graduating class Thursday with poems, limericks, stories and tears, and wished them well as the headed off to careers and further schooling. This year’s senior class was small, with just five students earning diplomas from the school. In spite of their small number, however, dozens of friends and relatives came to Bayview Hall for the ceremony to see Lauren Campbell, Piper Nichole, Eve Preus, Sean Ritsma, and Ryan Whitehead in their moment of educational glory.South Whidbey Superintendent Lisa Bjork gave the graduation address to the seniors. She told them they should be proud of their accomplishments at the alternative high school.I think being an alternative school is the most awesome, wonderful thing to be, Bjork said.Three of the graduates — Nichole, Preus, and Whitehead — received a total of $15,090 in scholarships for post-secondary education. Preus will go to the University of Washington next year, while Whitehead will attend the Seattle Art Institute.One of the most touching moments of the hug- and tear-filled ceremony came when English teacher Dianne MoonDancer read a poem of her own creation to Eve Preus, who developed a reputation as a poet at Bayview. School administrator Mike Rouse did his best to follow MoonDancer’s act. Admitting that he is not a poet, Rouse read an original limerick for Sean Ritsma to commemorate the occasion.”
