Brown water is running out in Langley

Langley officials said the end-of-September flush of city water lines has turned tap water yellow and brown, but the water is starting to clear up.

Langley officials said the end-of-September flush of city water lines has turned tap water yellow and brown, but the water is starting to clear up.

Public Works Director Challis Stringer said customers on Furman Avenue have recently reported that city water has lost its colorful tint.

She said the discolored water — usually caused by iron rust in water pipes — was not a health hazard.

“It’s perfectly safe to drink. It’s just naturally occurring minerals in the water,” Stringer said.

The city has put information about the colored water on its website at http://www.langleywa.org/whats-new.html.
