Tim Callison and Sharon Emerson have maintained their lead this week in the three-way race for Langley mayor, largely guaranteeing their progression to the November general election.

According to a Thursday ballot count by the Island County Auditor’s office, Callison was still ahead with 208 votes — 43.97 percent — while Emerson trailed by less than 20 votes. She captured 39.96 percent, or 189 votes.

The three candidates were vying for the position currently held by Fred McCarthy, who decided not to seek re-election. The office of mayor carries a four-year term and pays $55,000, not including benefits.

Rob Born has also retained his commanding lead over incumbent Georgia Gardner for Position 2 on the Whidbey General Hospital board. He has 4,733 votes — 46.81 percent — to Garnder’s 3,803 votes — 37.61 percent.

Rita Drum, who also ran for the seat, has 1,575 votes, or 15.58 percent.

The election will be certified Aug. 18.
