Candidates for school board to be narrowed in primary

Nine candidates are seeking three positions on the South Whidbey School Board.

Nine candidates are seeking three positions on the South Whidbey School Board, according to the list of candidates who filed by press time Friday morning.

The candidate filing week in the state ended Friday afternoon. The candidates will be whittled to two for each position in the Aug. 3 primary.

Four people signed up to run for Position 4 on the South Whidbey School Board, a two-year, unexpired term currently held by Marnie Jackson.

The candidates are Jackson, Lorinda Newton, Farrah Manning Davis and Emily Uhl.

Three candidates filed for Position 5. They are Bree Kramer-Nelson, Ann Johnson and Greg Dalrymple.

Also, Andrea Downs is facing Dawn Tarantino for Position 2.

The Langley City Council will have some new faces come 2022. Kay Kenneweg is running against Harolynne Bobis for Position 1. Tony Gill will face Scott Chaplin for Position 5.

In addition, Rhonda Salerno filed for Position 2.

Incumbent Kurt Blankenship and James Golder filed for Position 2 on the WhidbeyHealth Hospital District.

Other positions only have single candidates. Erik Jokinen, Jake Greve and Matthew Simms filed for positions on the board for South Whidbey Parks and Recreation.

Larry Metz filed for the governing board for South Whidbey Fire/EMS. Edward Halloran is running for a position on the Port of South Whidbey board.
