Someone broke into the Clinton Library during the past weekend and made off with a small amount of cash and movie DVDs, according to the Island County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Darren Crownover of the South Precinct said the break-in occurred sometime Friday night or early Saturday morning, and was reported by library staff about 10:50 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19.

Crownover said entry was gained by forcing the rear door of the library, located on Deer Lake Road. He said a small vending machine used to collect money for computer printing also was jimmied, and a small amount of cash taken. Cash also was taken from a desk drawer, Crownover said.

He said loss to the library was about $90, most estimated to be the cost of repairing the door. It was not determined if books are missing.

“Nothing else was disturbed,” Crownover said. “It looks like they were looking for some quick cash.”

Crownover said fingerprints and other evidence was collected at the scene, which will be sent to the state crime lab.

He urged anyone with information to call 321-4400.
