South Whidbey parks officials re-opened their new, updated version of Castle Park last weekend.

The final pieces to the puzzle — three slides — finally showed up.

“They were ordered in late December and took longer to arrive that we anticipated,” said maintenance supervisor Tom Fallon. “Some of the hardware was missing but we were able to get the slides ready to go.”

New additions include a slider with a handle on ball bearings that allows kids to travel above the ground, a new rope pyramid that will challenge climbers of any age and lateral bars for older folks.

Park commissioners plan a grand re-opening of the playground from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 24.
