A proposal to allow the city’s Parks and Open Space Commission to conduct public hearings on a draft parks and open space plan will be considered by the Langley City Council next week.

The council will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, at city hall on Second Street. A council work session will be at 4 p.m.

Since its reconstitution in 2008, the Parks and Open Space Commission has been at work on proposed changes to the city’s comprehensive plan.

Under the current city code, hearings on the plan would be the responsibility of the Planning Advisory Board, but planning officials say the Parks and Open Space Commission should conduct hearings, since it created the plan.

Monday’s action would be the first reading of the proposed changes to the city code. Adoption would follow at a subsequent meeting.

Council members are also expected to hear a proclamation by Mayor Paul Samuelson honoring the 100th anniversary of Langley United Methodist Church. Reports of this weekend’s New Media 2012 conference and the upcoming DjangoFest also are expected.
