Churches announce topics of Sunday services.

South Whidbey churches have announced the topics for this Sunday's services.

Sermon topic is ‘Don’t Love the World’

If Jesus tells us to “love our neighbor as ourselves,” then why does John the Apostle admonish believers against “loving the world”? Co-pastor Ron Wedeking’s topic for Sunday’s sermon at South Whidbey Community Church is “Don’t Love the World,” based on 1st John 2:15-17.

Sunday morning, Stan Walker will be absent, so the adult forum class on the book of Acts will combine with Ken Goff, who is teaching and leading a discussion through the Old Testament book of 1st Samuel, on the life of David. Adult forum classes begin at 9 a.m., and morning worship is from 10 to 11 a.m.

There will also be an all-church beach barbecue Sunday at Jim and Anita Craft’s home immediately following morning worship.

For further information about the church and services, go to www.whidbeychurch.org or call 221-1220.

‘Ethics of Information Technology’ at UUCWI

Kim Jones, a member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island and owner of Boomerang at Ken’s Korner, will host an open discussion about how technology has changed our lives in ways that are both exciting and challenging.

Have we chosen to be more or less involved? What positive and negative effects has the World Wide Web had on our relationships, the art of conversation and our young people’s education?

Come ready to discuss this multi-generational challenge. The service starts at 10 a.m. Sunday at the church, located at 20103 Highway 525.

All are welcome. Childcare will be provided for infants and toddlers.

There will be no religious education classes in July or August. Check www.whidbey.com/uucwi for more information.
