Clam-digging expert Eugene Thrasher is teaching more classes this summer on the correct way to dig clams.

Thrasher will lead groups at classes on two beaches: Double Bluff and west Penn Cove.

Each session will cover how to take the right size clams and replace tiny ones so they’ll continue to grow and not die. It will also include clamming rules, techniques and limits, as well as clam lore and preparation and cooking tips.

People who want to attend a class should come with a clamming license — sold at local hardware stores — and wear clothing and footwear that can get wet and sandy.

Also, clammers should bring a shoveling tool such as a trenching shovel and one bucket per digger.

The class schedule is Penn Cove, 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 19; Double Bluff, 9 a.m. Thursday, July 31; Penn Cove, 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2; and Double Bluff, 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16.
