Electing officers, filling vacancies, amending bylaws and reviewing a pair of past meetings about the Clinton commercial core’s role in the county’s comprehensive plan update will all be discussed by the Clinton Community Council on Monday, Nov. 23.

The meeting is expected to last about 90 minutes, starting at 6 p.m. at Clinton Community Hall. The non-elected, volunteer members of the council assembled in 2014 to create a place where Clinton residents could voice their concerns in a unified way to the county and state. As an unincorporated area, most of its lands are governed by either the state — Highway 525, the ferry system — or the Island County government.

As part of the county’s comprehensive plan update, the Clinton rural area of intense development was projected to not need much adjustment. One of the major questions was about swapping some parcels and property designations for rural center (essentially commercial development) for rural residential.

Other issues, such as business growth, marketing, pedestrian/bike access, and improving the look were also raised by people who attended the two planning meetings in October and November.
