“The South Whidbey community is invited to the dedication ceremonies for the new Clinton Library, hosted by the Library Friends on Saturday, May 20, to celebrate the opening of the building and completion of more than 10 years of hard work. The event will begin at 10 a.m. at the library building on Deer Lake Road. There will be speeches, food and well-deserved thanks extended to the many individuals, businesses and FOCL volunteers who have pitched in over the years. A school-age program of stories, songs and activities for ages 5-12 will take place at 1 p.m. The Clinton Library is now open for business three days a week, and the Friendsare still busy with ongoing projects, particularly with fund raising events that will continue to support and maintain the new library building. Another Millennium rummage sale is being planned for this summer, and the Friends are also planning to continue their mobile book sales at the Saturday Market at Bayview Hall, June through September. Volunteers are always needed for these efforts. The FOCL continues to earn funds through newspaper recycling from collection bins at Ken’s Korner and Dairy Queen, and through the collection of grocery receipts from the Red Apple supermarkets at Casey’s and Ken’s Korner. Both markets are doubling their grocery receipt program through the end of May. Collection boxes are in the Clinton Library and in the lobbies of InterWest Bank and Whidbey Island Bank in Clinton. The Friends also raise money with ongoing book sales at the Clinton Library building and also in the lobby of the InterWest Bank in Clinton. Donated books can also be dropped off there. Hardcovers, paperbacks and children’s books in readable condition are always needed. The Friends meet on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m., at the Clinton Library building. For information, or to volunteer in some way, call Linda Falken at 321-2655.”
