Construction can be challenging on South Whidbey due to drainage, waste-water issues, soil properties and conditions.

A man who knows all about these challenges is Todd

Nysether.

“Well, I have encountered a lot of challenges in over 20 years building on South Whidbey,” he said.

This experience has equipped him to be prepared for any construction job.

“Big jobs, small jobs — anything,” he said.

“I’ve been in this business since 1985 working for other people,” he said.

It was time for a change.

In February of this year, he decided to become his own boss and started Todd Nysether Constructions.

Nysether is specializing in septic systems and repairs, excavations, land clearing and road building.

At this point he is a one-man operation out in the field but he hires help if he needs assistance on bigger projects.

However, his wife Anne Nysether helps him with the bookkeeping and office side of the business.

“She helps where she can, and then there is moral support,” Nysether said.

When Nysether decided to start his own business she supported him 100 percent, he added.

One of his priorities is to be a reliable entity in the building process. Competitive pricing and reliability are key.

“In construction, it is important to be on time,” Nysether said.

The interaction with his clients is important to him.

“I like the one-on-one contact with the contractors and home- owners,” he said.

Under his own direction, he hopes to become the contractor that homeowners want to build with.

Nysether has been on Whidbey Island since 1980. He lives with his family in Clinton, where his business is located.
