Mayor Nancy Conard and County Commissioner Helen Price Johnson are hosting a facilitated community conversation with Central Whidbey residents and business owners from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, at the Coupeville Rec Hall.

In a release, Conard said the subject is to address the challenges created by the transition to Growler planes at the Navy’s Outlying Field south of Coupeville. Many consider the Growler more noisy than its predecessor, the Prowler.

“The focus will be on identifying the impact of the airfield activities and exploring possible operational mitigation strategies,” she said. “This event will provide a venue for the locally elected officials representing the Central Whidbey community to hear directly from the citizens in this area then communicate with local Navy leadership to seek solutions.”

Staff members from Rep. Rick Larsen’s office as well as Sen. Murray and Sen. Cantwell’s offices will attend.
