After a year of revolving interim leaders, the Coupeville School District has a new leader.

Jim Shank, who finished his tenure leading the Juab School District in Utah, started his position as the Coupeville School District superintendent.

His arrival marks the first time since the middle of 2012 that the school district has had a permanent superintendent.

Shank has been involved in school district operations since the Coupeville School Board selected him as superintendent. He visited the school district in April, has participated in board meetings via Skype and has been working with Lisa Bjork, interim superintendent who was once South Whidbey’s superintendent.

The Coupeville School District has had three interim superintendents since Patty Page resigned at the end of the 2012 school year. The first interim superintendent, Karen Koschak, resigned in early 2013 due to a family issue. Since then, Jerry Jenkins from the Educational Service District and Bjork have filled the superintendent role.
