Bellingham-based grocery chain Haggen on Friday gained court approval to sell its remaining 33 stores in Washington and Oregon, including the store in Oak Harbor, as part of bankruptcy proceedings.

The stores are set to be auctioned off Feb. 5.

The sales, approved by Delaware bankruptcy court judge Kevin Gross, are part of the Chapter 11 bankruptcy Haggen filed in early September.

Haggen’s original intention in filing for Chapter 11 in early September was to build future profitability around core stores. It said then that it would shut down only 27 stores in Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington within the next two months. Of Haggen’s 35 stores in Washington, only one — in Spanaway, near Tacoma — was set to close as of mid-August.
