Slow Food Whidbey Island recently presented a gift of a $750 scholarship to Greenbank Farm Agriculture Training Center for the 2012 school year.

Slow Food Whidbey Island is a chapter of Slow Food USA, a nonprofit educational organization that is part of a global, grassroots movement with thousands of members around the world that links the pleasure of food with a commitment to community and the environment.

The scholarship funds are proceeds from Slow Food’s 2011 Taste of Whidbey.

Interested scholarship applicants should email Sebastian Aguilar at trainingcenter@greenbankfarm.com for more information about the training program, tuition and scholarship opportunities. The 2012 school year begins March 15, and an application is available at www.greenbankfarm.com.

Slow Food Whidbey Island’s next Taste of Whidbey will be held June 3 at Freeland Hall. Guests will enjoy food from Whidbey’s top chefs, cooking with locally-sourced ingredients, as well as local wine and beer.

Tickets are $25 for 10 tastes (extras at $2 per taste) and are available from local restaurants and www.brownpapertickets.com.
