Island County Commissioner John Dean will discuss “The State of the County” at the annual dinner meeting for the League of Women Voters of Whidbey Island later this month.

Island County Commissioner John Dean will discuss “The State of the County” at the annual dinner meeting for the League of Women Voters of Whidbey Island later this month.

The dinner is 5:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 22 at the Whidbey Golf & Country Club in Oak Harbor. The meeting will begin with no-host cocktails and dinner will follow at 6 p.m.

League nominations and the business meeting will start at 6:30, and the program begins at 7 p.m.

The public is invited, but

reservations are required; call 360-679-2299 or 360-675-5596 no later than May 16. The cost is $20.

The League of Women Voters of Whidbey Island is launching a yearlong theme that will focus on speakers and presentations designed to bring residents up-to-date on many current issues.

Using ‘The State of …” addresses as a starting point, the league will consider important issues from local government

to international relationships, and engaging speakers to report the progress and address the challenges of these issues.
