A delivery truck caught a phone line as it rounded the corner at the intersection of Midway Boulevard and Whidbey Avenue in Oak Harbor Wednesday morning.

A delivery truck caught a phone line as it rounded the corner at the intersection of Midway Boulevard and Whidbey Avenue in Oak Harbor Wednesday morning.

Several buildings were damaged as the taut line came loose from the pole and knocked into roofs, including a dentist’s office.

“It was a huge amount of tension,” said Capt. Craig Anderson with the Oak Harbor Fire Department.

“It is a big cable.”

At first, responders were worried it was a power line, but it is a communication cable used by Frontier Communications.

The driver told firefighters he had rounded this corner before with no problems.

Meanwhile, workers are repairing the damage, which doesn’t appear to be major, said Matthew VanGiesen, a special services technician with Frontier. He’s also an Oak Harbor firefighter.

The line serves customers in the Crescent Harbor area, and there were no major outage reports, VanGiesen said.
