The Readiness to Learn Foundation accepted a comfortable contribution for the upcoming holiday season.

The foundation received a $1,000 donation from Comforts of Whidbey winery on Nov. 14. The donation was made to help South Whidbey families in need. Owners of the Langley winery, Carl and Rita Comfort, presented the check to Betty Bond, interim president of the foundation’s board of directors.

Comforts of Whidbey provides financial assistance to many charity organizations in the community, according to Carl Comfort in a news release. The business is donating a portion of its profits this year to groups serving families in need, troubled teenagers and veterans.

“We deeply appreciate the generosity of Rita and Carl Comfort in making this donation to help local children and families,” said Bond, in the news release. “The funds will help support our local programs so that families can receive the assistance they need.”

The foundation organizes initiatives on Whidbey Island to provide a stable home and learning environment for children and their families. Grants and community donations are an integral part for the foundation to run programs such as Back to School, Families in Transition, Holiday House and Parent Education Classes.
