At Ace Garden Center in Freeland, learn about protecting the earth’s diminishing peat bogs during presentations from 9-4.Events at the Greenbank Farm begin with the Procession of Species this morning at 10:30. Bring, borrow or create a costume, mask or puppet that represents a plant, animal or aspect of nature. Then there’s music, storytelling and a poetry slam; drumming lessons and nature walks,; and displays that run the gamut from Bob McConchie’s electric car and enviro-friendly gardening to an environmentally-sound car washing demonstration and a dissection of owl pellets. There are talks on soil and a natural history sketch class. The Whidbey Institute will lead meditation and reflection outside the Jim Davis House in the early afternoon, and South Whidbey Tilth is sponsoring a talk at 6 p.m. about Community Supported Agriculture and subscription farming. For all who are hungry, South Whidbey Tilth will sell organic soups, bread and other items, and the 1504 Coffee Bar will serve organic coffee and cider.”
