Though they led most of the way — by seven at the half — the girls basketball team lost to Shorecrest by two shots 49-45 on Tuesday in the first District One double-elimination game.

Friday at 8 p.m., the Lady Falcons meet Lynden at Squalicum High School in Bellingham for the second game. Starter Marcella Litwiller suffered a serious knee injury and is questionable.

If South Whidbey wins, they’ll play Burlington-Edison Feb. 21 at Squalicom.
