“Griefwalker,” a film about the redemptive power of deep love for life, will be shown at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1 at Langley United Methodist Church.

“Griefwalker” is a new film from the National Film Board of Canada. This one-hour documentary is an extraordinary portrait of Stephen Jenkinson’s work with dying people. It is not a movie about dying, nor is it a movie about how to survive death. It is a movie about how people might thrive in a life experience that, because of the culture they live in, seduces them towards survivalism and endurance instead. Survivalism assumes without question that dying is trauma; the assumption of thriving is that the trauma comes from the refusal to die and to know death well.
