Updated cost estimates and drawings for a new central facility at Bayview will be presented to Island County Fire District 3 commissioners at their monthly meeting tonight.

Updated cost estimates and drawings for a new central facility at Bayview will be presented to Island County Fire District 3 commissioners at their monthly meeting tonight.

The meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 11, at the Freeland Fire Station.

Envisioned is a 10,000-square-foot, two-bay fire station, a 5,400-square-foot administration building and a 400-square-foot training tower. Previous estimates for the project have ranged from $4 million to $8 million.

The district is continuing to pursue permits, although no timetable for construction has been set because of the sour economy.

Also at Thursday’s meeting, commissioners are expected to adjust the fee it contributes to the countywide ICOM emergency dispatch system.

It’s estimated that the district must pay an additional $11,000 as its share to cover cost overruns.

ICOM said it incurred about $100,000 total in overruns on several improvement projects, including a height extension on its transmission tower off Cultus Bay Road.

The district had budgeted $55,000 for ICOM this year. It contributed $51,000 in 2009.
