The South Whidbey Fire/EMS commissioners will meet Thursday to discuss the proposed levy increase, as well as video project and ground maintenance contracts.

Commissioners are considering a 15-cent increase that would push the levy to 76 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value. Fire Chief Rusty Palmer told the commissioners two months ago that the budget will exceed the fire protection district’s revenues by 2013 or 2014 because of the continued decline in property values on South Whidbey.

The commissioners will also look at several contracts and agreements. Among the projects is a video for recruiting and retention of volunteers for the district and a grounds maintenance contract. They are also expected to review a bid for a burn building at the district’s property in Bayview.

The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 10 at the Freeland fire station, located at 5535 Cameron Road.
