A former candidate for Oak Harbor City Council was recently arrested for allegedly threatening to kill a man and violating a court order July 21, according to court documents.

Jerry Oliver, also known as Gerry Oliver, recently resigned as assistant softball coach, a volunteer position with Oak Harbor High School, according to a school spokesperson.

Prosecutors charged Oliver, 43, in Island County Superior Court July 24 with felony harassment and violation of a domestic-violence no-contact order.

Both superior court judges recused themselves from the case.

Oliver and his wife are going through a contentious divorce and child custody dispute.

Judge Vickie Churchill recently filed a lawsuit against Oliver and his real estate company, GO Realty, because she had hired him to manage a four-plex she owns, and he allegedly failed to deposit rental proceeds or tenants’ security deposits, her complaint states.

In the criminal case, Oliver’s ex-wife and her boyfriend were sitting in a parked vehicle downtown when Oliver pulled up next to them, started yelling “get out of my car” and made threats to kill one of them, though the reporting parties were unsure of who was being threatened, a police report states.

A no-contact order barred Oliver from contacting the woman, court documents show. The officer wrote that a fourth-degree assault case, with the same man as the alleged victim, was “pending” against Oliver in district court.

Oliver ran for a council seat in 2009 but lost to Scott Dudley.
