In honor of Washington State Parks turning 102 years old, visitors can enjoy all state parks for free Thursday, March 19.

More than 100 parks, trails and recreation sites are run by the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission. Whidbey parks include: South Whidbey State Park, Fort Casey, Fort Ebey, Joseph Whidbey and Deception Pass.

March 19 is the third of 12 planned no-fee visits to state parks, which typically require a Discover Pass for entry and use.

“These free days are a great way for people to explore a new park or return to an old favorite,” said Commission Chairwoman Pat Lantz of Gig Harbor, in a news release. “Once people realize just what they have in Washington state parks, we hope they consider buying a Discover Pass. Revenues from the pass are so important; they help keep our parks open and accessible.”
