Frontier Building Supply in Freeland held its 13th annual belt-sander racing competition Friday, July 25.
The free event offered the company a chance to connect with the community and show appreciation for its customers.
Sally Paul, store manager, said the race was a great success with 150-200 in attendance.
In addition to the usual fun and frenzy, this year’s race contained a special twist—in tune with NFL Friday, the sanders and spectators were invited to don the colors of their favorite pro football teams. According to Paul, several people bore the green and blue of the Seattle Seahawks.
The award for best dressed fan went to Dick Anderson and his dog Lucy.
The Most Valuable Player [Sander] award went to Gary Formhals.
Campbell Albertsen worked the mic as MC of the event, keeping the crowd and competitors pumped.
Winners of first, second and third place in the races each received gift certificates to the store. Tom Walker of Oak Harbor went home with first place and a $300 gift certificate; Steve Haynes of Steve Haynes Construction took second place and received a $200 gift certificate while Tim Shorey of Shorey Construction received third place and a $100 certificate.
