Sno-Isle Libraries installed a public fax machine at the Freeland Library as part of the push for more fax machines in local libraries.

The self-service fax pilot project was launched at the Lynnwood and Granite Falls libraries in November 2010, then spread to Oak Harbor, Darrington and Mukilteo this year.

Sno-Isle officials said that based on the positive feedback from both pilot sites and three other libraries that installed fax machines this year, seven more fax machines have been added to branches in the library system.

In addition to Freeland, the fax machines have been added in Marysville, Mill Creek, Monroe, Mountlake Terrace, Snohomish and Sultan.

To send a fax, library patrons can use a debit, credit or FaxCash card; costs are similar to other self-service fax services at businesses ($1.50 for the first page and $1 per additional page).

There is no cost to Sno-Isle for this service; the fax machine vendor supplies the equipment, and Friends of the Library groups make the FaxCash card available for purchase in the libraries.
