A Freeland man was killed in a one-car crash in Everett Saturday.

The accident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. on the 4300 block of Broadway Avenue where a bridge takes the road over an I-5 onramp, according to Everett Police Department officials.

Emergency responders arrived to find the 29-year-old man injured but alive. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died of his injuries, said officer Aaron Snell, a spokesman for the police department.

The victim has not yet been identified. He is in the custody of the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s office, who will determine cause and manner of death and release the man’s identity.

An investigation of the accident by the police department’s traffic safety unit determined that the driver failed to negotiate the tight “S” turn and collided with the bridge.

He was driving a newer model black Nissan pickup truck.

Snell said the investigation is ongoing, but there is no evidence at this time that drugs or alcohol were involved. Police are uncertain what exactly caused the crash to occur, he said.

“There really is no explanation or evidence at this time to support anything,” Snell said.

An official with the medical examiner’s office said it will be Monday afternoon at the earliest before the man’s name is released to the public.
