Freeland sewer meetings officially off

Meetings scheduled next month by the Freeland Water and Sewer District to discuss a proposed sewer system have been cancelled.

Meetings scheduled next month by the Freeland Water and Sewer District to discuss a proposed sewer system have been cancelled.

The scheduled information meetings on May 10 and 17, were officially cancelled by the commissioners during their meeting on Monday night.

Commissioner Jim Short said Tuesday that the sewer issue may come up at the board’s next workshop in two weeks, and the public is invited.

Meanwhile, the May 24 hearing to form a local improvement district to finance a sewer project also was cancelled.

Commissioners announced at a public meeting this past week attended by nearly 200 that the formation of an LID for the proposed project has been postponed indefinitely because of the expense to the 471 property owners, lack of state and federal funds and the tide of opposition to the proposed $40 million sewer project.
