The Whidbey Island branch of American Association of University Women (AAUW) held its sixth annual fashion show fundraiser March 24 at the Whidbey Golf Club. More than 100 women from around the island gathered on the day in their spring finery to enjoy lunch and fashions provided by Deb Scholz, owner of Coupeville boutique, One More Thing.

They were modeled by American Association of University Women members.

Proceeds from tickets, a raffle and silent auction combined to raise more than $4,000 for scholarships for young women on the island.

There were twice as many merchants who donated gift certificates and items for the raffle and silent auction. Members also put together gift baskets and donated paintings, handmade quilts and other items to make the event a success.

In all this year, the American Association of University Women branch on Whidbey will award more than $14,000 in scholarships, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) stipends and Tech Trek camp scholarships to high school and middle school girls on Whidbey Island.

American Association of University Women’s mission statement is to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research.
