The annual South Whidbey ecumenical Good Friday Vigil will begin this year with a one hour traditional service of readings and reflections on the biblical Good Friday narrative.

The service is from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, April 3, at Trinity Lutheran Church.

A public interfaith silent peace vigil at the corner of Highway 525 and Fish Road will follow.

“In this commemoration of the Christian tradition that remembers the violent death suffered by Jesus and recognizes the suffering in this world of those victimized by violence, even as it prepares for its Easter proclamation of hope and renewal, we stand in silent prayer as we remember all the global victims of economic, racial, ethnic and gender violence, and most particularly, for those affected by wars,” said Tom Ewell, a Quaker and one of the organizers of the peace vigil.

The Peace Vigil is sponsored by members of the South Whidbey clergy and includes a special invitation to those of all faiths to participate.
