The woman has been identified as 53-year-old Kathie Ann Baker. She was found wrapped in a tarp behind a residence on Silver Cloud Lane at about 10:15 a.m. Saturday, June 9, according to a news release from the Island County Sheriff’s Office.

Island County Sheriff Mark Brown confirmed that a man has been arrested in connection with the death.

“We do have a suspect in custody who we believe is responsible,” Brown said.

The man has been identified as the victim’s husband, 61-year-old Robert Alan Baker. An autopsy of Kathie Ann’s body indicates blunt force trauma with ligature strangulation as the cause of death.

According to the news release, the victim had been dead for several days before her body was discovered.

The couple owned a pizza restaurant in Freeland, which they opened last year.

Robert Baker is being held in the Island County Jail in Coupeville and is scheduled for arraignment in Island County Superior Court at 1 p.m. on Monday.
