Ham radio operators from across Whidbey Island will take their radio exams at the next meeting of the Island County Amateur Radio Club.

The club will meet 9 a.m. Saturday, July 30 in the Island County commissioners board room, at 1 NE Sixth St. in Coupeville.

Club members will review lessons learned from participation in a national field emergency communications radio test held last month. Operating from a remotely-powered tent facility on a hill top in Langley, club members made more than 500 radio contacts with similar ham radio stations throughout the U.S. and Canada.

They also will discuss plans for a remote radio operation in August from Admiralty Head Lighthouse at Fort Casey State Park.

Volunteer examiners will be available to conduct federal amateur radio exams for members of the public seeking to become licensed ham radio operators. For more information, visit www.w7avm.org. To learn more about amateur radio, go to www.arrl.org.
